Welcome to Lanks Adventures!
My husband Bruce and I live on a small lake in northern Indiana where my family has spent 5 generations of summer weekends. Twenty years ago we moved from the Indiana town where we were raised to our lake cottage to live full time as lake residents rather than weekend lakers. We love our home and enjoy summer days in our boat with our adult children and seven grandchildren. We also love the four seasons we experience in Indiana - usually.
Snow is nice at Christmas but sub zero temperatures, blinding north winds and knee deep snow doesn’t bring “snow day” excitement when you are retired. We love being outdoors but shoveling snow isn’t high on our list.
As we sat around a warm fire in the fireplace on a cold fall evening at home, we talked about our retirement bucket list. As we discussed our bucket list, it was evident there was much to see in the USA.
We also had a warm, 3 month old Bernedoodle at our feet. We are both animal lovers and the thought of traveling without her didn’t settle with either of us. The solution, it seemed would be to get a travel trailer and camp across the US.
So, we ordered a new Rockwood Geopro 19FBS. The 19’ trailer was small enough to pull behind Bruce’s Honda Ridgeline. We would become “campers”. With just a few nights of scouting camp under our belts we embarked on a lifestyle adventure that we love.
We departed for our first trip in February of 2021. As of this date, we have logged 13,335 towing miles, we’ve camped in 20 states, in 45 campgrounds and spent 120 nights camping. Along the way we have visited 14 National Parks and at least 30 other National Park Service locations.
In upcoming posts, I will review the parks & campgrounds where we have camped as well as sights we have seen and other highlights of our previous trips. I will also discuss upcoming plans and the future trips we will take!
For now,
Life is short, make today an adventure!
